How Yasamin began
In 2022, Sundus from Darbandikhan started Yasamin. She bought fabric to sell to hotels and visited every hotel in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil. Not one hotel bought. Six months passed without a sale.
She sold the ring from her finger and bought a sewing machine. She changed the design and the stitching of her products. Then a shop placed one order worth four million dinars. She sewed for ten days and nights to finish it.
On delivery day, she left the finished order in front of the delivery company. Workers on a rubbish truck thought it was rubbish and took it. Two days later, she bought the fabric again and made the whole order a second time.
A shopkeeper told her to leave her logo off, so no one would know the products were Kurdish. She refused and kept the Yasamin name. Today Yasamin sews around 1,000 pieces a month, with six employees, all women.
This page is for the hotels she first tried to reach.
